The American Brahman

The American Brahman is known for their ability to thrive in hot, humid climates. We have found that Brahman cattle are very adaptable to different environments. They do very well in the Northwest. Our herd’s foundation came from a ranch out of Wyoming. Also, we have incorporated cattle from Texas into our herd and they acclimate well.

Brahman cattle look different from other breeds because they are bos indicus. Angus, Herefords , and so on are bos taurus. Bos indicus cattle have humps, pendulous dewlaps and short hair coats. Brahmans are a large frame breed, disease and parasite resistant and have increased longevity. Making them great as purebreds and for crossbreeding operations. The brahman excels in adding hybrid vigor (genetically maximizing the best qualities of both breeds). F-1 Brangus are a cross between purebred Brahman and Angus. In the Northwest the F-1 Black Brangus thrive.

Brad and Lynn began in the cattle business by buying a few Brahman cows to mow a pasture. It was love at first sight. The Brahman cattle are very majestic and gentle dispositions. Making them very unique cattle. They become part of the family. The Gilberts have a strong passion for breeding Brahman cattle and producing functional Brahmans for this climate.
